Though the 2018 NBA draft class is filled with young talent, the Dallas Mavericks made a smart choice in selecting Trae Young with the fifth pick. With the prevalence of guards at the highest level of basketball, Young should have the opportunity to excel at the offensive end. His passing skills and court vision will help him excel whilst he learns the professional game.

The biggest take away from Trae Young’s disappointing performance for Team USA during the Olympics was that he was not even considered for one of the final roster spots. The only person that Young beat out on the Olympic team was the 2016 Eurobasket MVP, Milos Teodosic of the parent club, the Orlando Magic. However, the second biggest takeaway is that Trae is a more than capable NBA player.

NBA fans saw Tre Young playing happily and freely, a sight to behold. The Oklahoma defenseman led the Atlanta Hawks to the NBA playoffs this year.

But the man who normally plays with a feather in his step will play with a stone in his bid for the Tokyo Olympics next year, after two cancellations.

Get ready for Young’s future NBA rivals to get killed for it.

The United States suffers a train wreck at the men’s Olympic basketball tournament in Tokyo as the team collapses.

The U.S. team faced potential problems early on, as some candidates dropped out early in the selection process, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic left so little free time between the last two seasons, especially for players whose teams made the playoffs both years. For every Tre Young who was disappointed not to be on the final roster, there were two NBA stars waiting for maximum rest this summer.

Coach Gregg Popovic was finally able to organize a training session last week, just a few days before the first test matches, but without the luxury of a full 12-man squad. A knee problem limits the options of Boston Celtics star Jason Tatum. Meanwhile, Devin Booker, Chris Middleton and Jrue Holiday remain tied in an NBA playoff series that will likely last seven games.

In addition, USA Basketball announced that Bradley Beal is now officially banned from the Olympics due to COVID-19 protocol and Jerami Grant may compete with him.

Trey Young expressed his disappointment

Damian Lillard is the only true point guard on the U.S. Olympic team so far. With Beale gone and Holiday and Booker still unavailable, the backcourt is the biggest problem. U.S. Basketball Association officials held a meeting Thursday to evaluate which players might still be available.

CBS Sports has compiled a possible list that includes Young. However, the Hawkish star took to social media to report that he had strayed again. He tweeted a clip from the ESPN documentary The Last Dance , in which Isaiah Thomas complains that he was unable to make the 1992 Dream Team.

Thomas’ personality annoyed his NBA colleagues and even without him, the team was very well provided for. But if Young has problems that have nothing to do with his skills, USA Basketball should remember that beggars can’t be choosers.

Young’s leg injury in the loss against the Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals could be a problem. However, there is a plausible conspiracy theory. Lloyd Pearce, a Team USA assistant, coached Young in Atlanta and The Athletic reported that Young had lost his confidence. The Hawks fired Pierce midway through the 2020-21 season.

Pierce will play for the Indiana Pacers next season. In my opinion, Young wants to play against the Pacers and whoever is drafted as a reserve player for the US national team when the new season starts.

Young isn’t the only disappointed NBA star

It didn’t excite me before, and it doesn’t excite me now …. I am

– Ja Morant (@JaMorant) 15. July 2021

Another man who will not replace Beale at the Tokyo Olympics is Ja Morant. The Memphis Grizzlies defenseman made that known Thursday by posting his own message on social media.

Morant was a somewhat odd omission from the original list of 57 candidates that made up Team USA. Although he wasn’t a great shooter in his first two NBA seasons, Morant is good with the ball.

He should have at least come into the conversation as a replacement, but that’s not going to happen after writing that USA Basketball didn’t poke me before, (so) don’t poke me now….. I’m calm.

Young looks diplomatic by comparison, and that makes the Olympic team look even worse.
