The future of LIV Golf, Tiger Woods’ new golf course in Florida, is looking bleak after being rejected a $1 billion offer from Dubai’s DAMAC Properties. Previous plans for the property include incorporating technology and an artificial-intelligence program to improve on player experience.
Tiger Woods has unveiled a cruel reality for LIV Golf by turning down “mind-blowingly enormous” offer close to $1 billion. The company was hoping that Tiger would have been the one to help them grow their business and increase revenue.
The LIV Golf league, which is supported by Saudi Arabia, has been tossing duffel bags the size of minivans at PGA Tour players in the goal of poaching the greatest players and taking over the sport. The alternative golf league, which is led by two-time major winner Greg Norman, has had only little success thus far.
Veteran golfers like Phil Mickelson, Louis Oosthuizen, and Sergio Garcia have all signed on, but it cost $125 million to persuade superstar Dustin Johnson to move. That huge amount of money seemed to be a drop in the bucket compared to what LIV Golf gave Tiger Woods, but the greatest player in PGA Tour history immediately demonstrated that LIV Golf would need more than infinite wealth to take over as golf’s top league.

The LIV Golf Invitational is due to begin this weekend in London, and a number of well-known PGA Tour players will be in the field for Norman’s passion project’s formal start. LIV Golf has already attracted 16 of the top 100 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, with more on the way.
Woods, on the other hand, will not be one of them.
Woods made it obvious last month at the PGA Championship that he is committed to the PGA Tour.
“I believe a lot of us who are devoted to the Tour and committed to the heritage of the Tour have pushed back against some of what Phil [Mickelson] has stated,” Woods said from Southern Hills. “However, I believe that certain of his opinions on how the Tour should, should, and should not be conducted have caused a lot of dispute.” Obviously, we’ll have differing viewpoints on how he views the [PGA] Tour, and we’ll go from there.”
“I’m a big fan of major championships.” “I believe in huge events and important personalities from the past,” he subsequently said. “There’s a lot of cash out here.” The Tour is becoming more popular. But it’s no different than any other sport. It’s similar to tennis. You must put forth the effort to earn it. You have to put yourself out there and compete for it. We now have the option to do so. It’s only that nothing can be promised up front.”
LIV Golf, on the other hand, is giving top players throughout the globe hundreds of millions of dollars to quit the PGA Tour, and that’s just the signing bonus. The purses on the rival golf circuit will begin at $25 million, with the winner of each tournament receiving $4 million.
Johnson was the first celebrity to bite, but his Tour future is now in jeopardy as a result of his choice. Tiger is not prepared to take that chance at any cost.
LIV Golf offered Tiger Woods a “mind-blowingly massive” deal, which he declined.
Greg Norman, via @washingtonpost, says LIV also courted Tiger Woods to be the face of its enterprise — with a “mind-blowingly enormous” offer

LIV Golf offered Johnson about $125 million to participate, while Jack Nicklaus was promised more than $100 million to represent the league. Those amounts, for some reason, pale in contrast to Woods’ purported offer.
Norman said in a recent interview with the Washington Post that Woods turned down a “mind-blowingly large” amount of money to join LIV Golf. He went on to say, “We’re talking about high nine figures.”
Tiger Woods’ decision to turn down a salary of almost $1 billion paints a harsh reality for LIV Golf’s future. The prospect of never-before-seen riches will entice veterans and average players to join the new golf league, but that’s all it has to offer.
There isn’t a single green jacket in sight. There will be no new records set. There are no legacies to be built.
In golf, there’s still much to be said about tradition and history. Players like Woods, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlroy will never decide that a greater bag of money is more essential than their PGA Tour legacy.
But money isn’t everything for LIV Golf, and it won’t be enough in the end.
