In the NBA, centers are still dominating the league in terms of points. As teams continue to shift to a position-less approach and adopt more smaller lineups, centers will be able to put on an even bigger show.

The “nba mvp candidates 2021” is a topic that will be discussed for the upcoming NBA season. The race has been dominated by centers, but there are some interesting names on the list.

The NBA MVP Race Proves Centers Still Command the League

“When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth,” says the banner over the tyrannosaurus rex in Jurassic Park. A similar sign might have been erected over a Roy Hibbert monument at the entryway to every NBA stadium a decade ago, reading “When Centers Ruled the League.”

Centers, on the other hand, have not vanished. They’ve just progressed.

Nikola Jokic is a Serbian footballer. has the flair of Jason Kidd when it comes to passing. Joel Embiid is a forward for the Philadelphia 76ers. is posting up in the same manner that Shaq does, but he’s also hitting mid-range fadeaways like Dirk. To extend the comparison, Antetokounmpo, Giannis is a velociraptor in a T-body. Rex’s

And the NBA MVP race this year is demonstrating that centers still control the game.

The NBA MVP race is now led by Jokic, Embiid, and Giannis.

The top five contenders for the award, according to NBA.com’s MVP ladder for the week of March 4, are:

  1. Nikola Jokic is a Serbian footballer.
  2. Joel Embiid is a forward for the Philadelphia 76ers.
  3. Antetokounmpo, Giannis
  4. DeMar DeRozan is a player who plays for the Toronto Raptors.
  5. Morant, Ja

The Maurice Podoloff Trophy will almost certainly be won by one of the top three teams in the current standings. DeRozan continues to put up impressive statistics, but his team is faltering. Ja isn’t leapfrogging all three of the big guys, thus Morant would be the only true danger.

Despite the fact that he is the reigning MVP, Jokic receives the least attention at the national level, he is on track to win his second consecutive award. The Denver Nuggets’ star is 11th in the NBA in scoring (25.9 points per game), second in rebounding (13.8), and seventh in assists (8.1).

Embiid’s numbers are almost as unbelievable: he leads the NBA in scoring, is eighth in rebounding, and shoots more than 35% from three on roughly four attempts per game. (Jokic is shooting 36.3 percent from beyond the arc.)

Giannis is also back to his old tricks. If he were classified as a center in NBA.com’s statistical database, he would be second only to Embiid in scoring (29.4), sixth in rebounding (11.5), and second only to Jokic in assists.

Antetokounmpo is a center who can help anybody.

In some order, those centers will place first, second, and third in the poll. However, it isn’t only their individual stats and award rankings that demonstrate the position’s viability.

They’re demonstrating that large guys can still win titles.

The Philadelphia 76ers, led by Embiid, are tied for fifth place in the NBA. Antetokounmpo’s Bucks are in seventh place, while Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets are in ninth place, tied with Chicago.

(To distinguish Jokic from the others, Embiid now has James Harden as a running buddy, after previously having Tobias Harris, Seth Curry, and Tyrese Maxey; Giannis has Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday; and Jokic has… Aaron Gordon and Will Barton.)

In 2021-22, the reigning MVP has accomplished more with less than any other player in the league. Although Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. may return for the playoffs, Jokic has kept his club afloat in the Western Conference on his own.

The Bucks have the third-best chances to win the Eastern Conference championship, according to ESPN’s BPI (Basketball Power Index), followed by the Sixers. They’re expected to finish third and fourth, respectively, in the conference.

The Nuggets are second in the West in terms of championship chances, behind only the Phoenix Suns, who have the best record in the NBA by eight games. That’s not include Murray or MPJ.

To add gasoline to the flames, Rudy Gobert is in line for a fourth Defensive Player of the Year award, and his Utah Jazz have the third-best chances in the Western Conference to win the title.

It’s one thing to have individual numbers and accolades. These big guys, on the other hand, have their teams in position to win a championship.

Although centers are no longer apex predators, they are nonetheless deadly.

Do you need further proof that centers are still relevant? Prior to his injury, Cleveland Cavaliers center Evan Mobley (he was theoretically a 4 next to a typical 5 in Jarrett Allen, but plays in a Giannis-like center position) was the top rookie on NBA.com.

Along with the scoring guard, the three-and-D wing is still the most sought-after and valued archetype for an NBA team. Even with Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, for example, is Utah’s spark.

And although 7-footers may no longer be sitting on the block Dream Shaking anybody — though these three certainly could — the position remains dominating in the NBA.

Centers did not perish with the dinosaurs. The three-and-D meteor did not wipe them off (or whatever you believe may have happened). They discovered a means to progress.

And as a result of that development, they’re just as deadly as they’ve always been.

NBA.com provided all data.
