NBA’s first ever trade deadline is here and the Boston Celtics are scrambling to make something happen. But they have a catch: if they can’t get their target, then all of the players need to be bought out by February 10th or else it will not only cost them $4 million, but also 1/3rd of their 2019-20 cap space.

The Boston Celtics have been in a rough patch this year. The team has not made the playoffs since 2013, and it is clear that they need to make some changes. One of the most important things they can do is be buyers at the trade deadline. Read more in detail here: celtics trade rumors 2021.

The Boston Celtics Need to be Buyers — With a Catch

The Boston Celtics have had a peculiar season. The club has showed glimpses of becoming the championship-caliber team that many expected them to be. They’ve also displayed symptoms of deterioration after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2020. The Celtics have spent the whole season hovering around.500, despite having two All-Stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. They completed their work there last year.

What must the Celtics do in order to improve? Will they stick it out with Tatum and Brown? The Celtics need to be buyers in the market as the NBA trade deadline approaches, but there’s a catch.

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the Boston Celtics are a difficult club to predict.

The Celtics possessed Tatum, Brown, and a promising future throughout the 2017-18 season. They led the club to deep playoff campaigns for three years, giving Celtics supporters optimism for long-term success. The squad reached its pinnacle in 2020, when it reached the Eastern Conference Finals and lost in six games to the Miami Heat.

It’s been a battle – a difficult struggle — since then. Last year, Boston completed 36-36 in a pandemic-shortened regular season. In the first round of the playoffs, the Brooklyn Nets dominated the Boston Celtics. They are 21-21 through 42 games this season.

What’s most concerning about the Celtics is how many of those 21 games have been lost. Boston has held double-digit leads late in games on multiple occasions, only to see them slip away.

Effort has been questioned several times. When the Celtics were blasted out 115-83 by the Toronto Raptors in their home opening, it was a problem. Tatum said after the game that Boston’s lack of effort contributed to the defeat.

According to Mass Live, Tatum said, “We know why we lost.” “They simply played tougher and harder than we did.” It wasn’t a difficult task. We’re all experts in our fields. We’re all grown-ups now. We were able to comprehend what had occurred.”

With one exception, the Boston Celtics should be buyers at the NBA trade deadline.

The Celtics’ biggest concern should be how long they can wait for Tatum and Brown to turn the club around. The Celtics should be able to assemble a team around their two superstars. It’s not that simple.

The Celtics are now mired in NBA limbo. They aren’t excellent enough to make a long playoff run, but neither are they awful enough to be drafted in the lottery. As the deadline approaches, should they be buyers or sellers?

It’s a difficult decision since there aren’t many options for building around Tatum and Brown. Marcus Smart’s departure would rob the squad of its soul. He’s the only one on the team who can handle adversity. His dedication is unquestionable. He’s also not the sort of player who would provide a huge return on investment. There would be no such thing as an upgrade.

Who is Robert Williams? Their athletic center has a lot of potential, and it’s unlikely that the Celtics would be willing to trade him. What would Josh Richardson, Grant Williams, and Dennis Schroder bring back if they were moved? Beyond Tatum and Brown, there isn’t much that can lift the team beyond mediocrity.

As a result, we’ll have to move either Tatum or Brown. Unless the Celtics are utterly swept off their feet, Tatum is unlikely to go. Brown has recently been the target of trade speculations – and therein is the problem. As long as Brown is moved, the Celtics must be buyers. It’s probably not what Celtics supporters want to hear, but it’s either take a chance and trade him, or retain both stars and continue to be average as they have been for the past 114 games.

Both the Celtics and the Sixers would profit from trading Brown for Ben Simmons.

For months, speculations have circulated that Brown would be traded for Ben Simmons. The Celtics were said to be interested in the unhappy 76ers point guard but refused to include Brown in a trade for him. It’s not going to happen if the Celtics sign Simmons without trading Brown.

Yes, Simmons’ mental health is in grave jeopardy. If he’s cleared to play and wants to join the Celtics, a trade featuring Brown and Simmons as the main components should benefit both sides. Simmons has made it obvious that he will no longer play for the Sixers.

It should be done if Philadelphia GM Daryl Morey can acquire a quality player like Brown without sacrificing anybody on the existing roster. Morey, on the other hand, has a hefty price tag on Simmons and must accept the fact that Simmons is done with Philadelphia. Brown is an All-Star player, so acquiring him makes sense.

Celtics supporters must also face reality. For the first time since December 22, the team has surpassed the.500 level. How did they pull it off? They’ve won three consecutive games, including the past two against the Indiana Pacers. One of the victories came in extra time.

Over the previous two years, the Celtics have shown that they are not who they claim to be. There must be a big change, and there are only two options: Tatum or Brown.
