Mike McDaniels made history as the first African-American head coach in Miami Dolphins History. The former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator was introduced to reporters this morning, and before he left his introductory press conference with a message for Tua Tagovailoa:
“I’m really excited about getting up there on Thursday.”
The “miami heat news” is a message that the new Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniels sent to Tua Tagovailoa.
Mike McDaniel has only been the Miami Dolphins’ head coach for a few days, but he’s already reached out to starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and promised him a contract for his first year in charge.
Tagovailoa’s future in Miami is still up in the air. He has two more seasons to show himself worthy of a contract extension in 2024, but based on his initial chat with McDaniel, the young quarterback is projected to rapidly achieve his enormous potential and secure the starting position for years to come.

Since former head coach Brian Flores filed a complaint against the league and three clubs alleging racism in hiring procedures, the Dolphins have been at the center of controversy in the NFL. But, in the midst of the hurricane, Miami was searching for a new head coach.
The Dolphins hired Mike McDaniel, the former offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, as their next coach over the weekend. In 2013, McDaniel was a member of the star-studded Washington Redkins coaching staff with Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Matt LaFleur. After that, he worked as an offensive coach with the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons before joining the 49ers and ultimately rising to the position of offensive coordinator.
McDaniel is known for his ability to coach the run game, but he’ll have to find out how to maximize Tagovailoa’s passing skills to get this offense going in the right manner.
He seems to have already devised a strategy for this.
Tua Tagovailoa’s first communication from McDaniel
It’s critical for each new head coach in the NFL to immediately connect with his quarterback. McDaniel, it seems, agrees.
McDaniel got on a FaceTime chat with Tagovailoa shortly after being named Miami’s new head coach and set out his early expectations for their connection. On Tuesday morning, the Dolphins shared a video of the exchange on Twitter.
“My guy, we’re going to have a long professional connection,” McDaniel said to Tagovailoa. “One thing I know about you is that you aspire to greatness. My objective is to train you and bring out all of your potential. And it’ll be a blast, guy. It will be challenging, but I know you aren’t frightened of that. So this is an incredible day for me, and I’m going to make sure that when you look back on it, you’ll think, “Damn, that was one of the finest days of my career.” OK? But I’ll have to work for it. “Did you get me?”
McDaniel also made a commitment to his new quarterback, one he wants to uphold for the next several seasons.
“This is a tremendous chance for me, and I have no intention of squandering it.” “I can assure you,” he said. “I’m all in,” says the participant. You’re going to get the very finest performance out of me.”
Will Tagovailoa, on the other hand, give his new head coach his all?
Tagovailoa’s employment is still in jeopardy.

Tagovailoa has failed to convince the Dolphins that he is the long-term option at quarterback. The Alabama product has been disappointing in two years as the starter after being picked No. 5 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.
In 2021-22, Tagovailoa had the third-lowest completion rate among eligible starts, at 10.1 yards per pass. Only Jared Goff and Ben Roethlisberger were on the list with a lower ranking. Tagovailoa only thrown 16 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in 12 starts.
It’s conceivable that McDaniel’s improved running game will allow Tagovailoa to throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage more often, but with just two years remaining on his rookie contract, the 23-year-old will have to make a statement next season and show he belongs in this league.
McDaniel seems to believe that greatness resides inside that left arm, and that it is now his responsibility to unlock it.
