Luka Doncic became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double on Sunday when he led Real Madrid against FC Barcelona. The 19 year old point guard was drafted 3rd overall by Dallas Mavericks this summer and has continued his stellar play into his first season with 12 points, 13 assists, 10 rebounds and 10 steals over two games.

Luka Doncic brought his Dallas Mavericks to the desert on Monday night for Game 1 of the Western Conference semi-finals against the Phoenix Suns, after guiding his club to their first playoff series victory since the franchise’s title-winning run in 2011.
Doncic’s first trip to the second round in his short career was definitely a success, and the 23-year-old made the most of his opportunity. The Mavs were unable to stay up with the top-seeded Suns and were defeated by seven points, 121-114.
Phoenix jumped out to a 9-0 lead early in the game and never looked back, beating Dallas for the 10th time in a row. Deandre Ayton led the Suns with 25 points on 12-for-20 shooting in 33 minutes, while Devin Booker chipped in with 23 points. Chris Paul remembers what it felt like to miss a shot and still finish with 19 points on seven of thirteen attempts.
Doncic, on the other hand, had a fantastic game for the Mavericks. While it wasn’t quite enough to lead Dallas to victory, it did put him in excellent company, particularly with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

Doncic undoubtedly gave it his all in his quest to lead the Mavericks to victory. He logged the most minutes in the game, 44, and topped all scorers with 45 points. The three-time All-Star made 15 of 30 field goals, including four of 11 from beyond the arc, and 11 of 14 from the foul line.
Doncic was unable to lead the Mavericks to victory once again, but he did become the first player in more than two decades to score 45 points and grab 10 rebounds in an NBA playoff game. The last player who was this young and put up those numbers was the late, great Kobe Bryant, who scored 45 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Game 1 of the 2001 Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs for the Los Angeles Lakers. At the time, Kobe was 22 years old.
Luka’s effort was also his sixth playoff game in which he scored at least 40 points, the most by a player under the age of 23 in NBA history.

And while we’re on the subject of the number 23, Doncic’s playoff scoring average is now 33.4 points per game, tying him for the greatest postseason scoring average of all time with Michael Jordan. Luka has only appeared in 17 postseason games, compared to 179 for the Chicago Bulls.
Jordan’s is actually higher, if you want to get technical. In his 179 playoff games, Michael Jordan scored 5,987 points, or 33.4469 points per game. In 17 postseason appearances, Doncic has scored 568 points for a 33.4117 average.
We’ll overlook it since Luka Doncic is the first player not named Michael Jordan to average more than 30 points per game in the playoffs (Allen Iverson is next at 29.73).
