LeBron James was a free agent last summer and decided to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for a chance at a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. The move shocked the NBA, but it may have been even more shocking if James had called one person before making his decision.

LeBron James ended up with the Lakers, but had a chance to shock the NBA with one phone call. It was a phone call from Magic Johnson that left him with no choice but to sign on with his old team. Read more in detail here: lebron james net worth.

When LeBron James became a free agent in 2018, he followed in the footsteps of many other NBA players. James inked a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, following the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and Jamaal Wilkes in making the move to Hollywood. James, on the other hand, had the opportunity to create a fresh path with a squad still searching for its first championship.

In LA, everything have worked out well for James. The King and his court dominated the NBA bubble in 2020, en way to the team’s first title in a decade, after an injury-plagued first season with the Lakers. Health issues delayed the Lakers’ championship defense in 2020–21, but with a new star on board in Russell Westbrook and plenty of experienced know-how, James and the Lakers are among the title favorites this season.

It had been a long time coming for LeBron James to join the Lakers.

The Lakers have a long and illustrious history. Their 17 NBA titles (or 12, depending on how you count them) are tied for the most in NBA history with the Boston Celtics. Since the merger with the ABA in 1976, no club has had more championships than LA’s ten.

However, LeBron James’ debut in Hollywood occurred at a crucial moment in the franchise’s history. The organization has struggled after winning back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010. Deals to sign two-time MVP Steve Nash and three-time Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard in 2012 were a failure. The Lakers were swept in the first round after Kobe Bryant injured his Achilles tendon late in the season.

From 1948 through 2013, the team only missed the playoffs seven times, and just once in consecutive seasons. So the Lakers’ six-year postseason hiatus was akin to the end of the New York Yankees’ dynasty in the mid-1960s. It was almost unthinkable.

In the regular season, LA has gone 94-49 since the debut of Frank Vogel in 2019. Despite James and Anthony Davis missing considerable time last season, the Lakers won the inaugural play-in tournament to earn the No. 7 seed in the West before losing in the first round to the Phoenix Suns in six games.

James and Davis, along with Westbrook, form the backbone of an older team vying for LeBron’s sixth crown. In 2018, though, The King got the opportunity to join up with another dominating big man.

The Denver Nuggets have launched a bid to sign LeBron James.

Josh Kroenke oversees the family’s sports business and is the son of Denver Nuggets governor Stan Kroenke. This includes the Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League. The Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer and Arsenal of the English Premier League provide support to the organization.

When LeBron James, the four-time NBA MVP, went on the free market in 2018, the younger Kroenke received a recruitment call from a Rocky Mountain high phone number.

According to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic, James discussed the discussion with the media in 2018:

“The owner is a close friend of mine, and he brought it up to me on occasion. He also gave me one of those vintage jerseys, the white ones with the mountains on them, saying, “You’d look nice in one of these.”

In 2018, LeBron James

At the end of the day, James never really considered going to Denver. Instead, we can only speculate about what a playmaking duo of James and Nikola Joki might do.

The Denver Nuggets would be difficult to defeat if they had two great supersized playmakers.

Joki won the NBA MVP award in 2020–21, averaging 26.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and an incredible 8.3 assists per game. Bill Walton is generally credited with being the greatest passing big man in NBA history, but Joki is quickly taking the honor.

The big Serbian, who stands 6-foot-11, is redefining what it means to lead an offense. Joki is the Nuggets’ main ballhandler, and he kept the club in contention when the team’s on-paper point guard, Jamal Murray, tore his ACL in April 2021.

In his 18 NBA seasons, LeBron James has been the focal center of the offense as a playmaker. It’s enticing to see James and Joki feeding teammates.

Unfortunately, Denver has never been a popular destination for free agents. Antonio McDyess, Marcus Camby, and Kenyon Martin are not to be dismissed. But you’re not exactly on anyone’s fast dial when they are the franchise’s most high-profile victories during the NBA’s silly season.

A excellent beginning poker hand would be a king and a joker. However, when LeBron James spotted the dazzling lights of the Sunset Strip, he soared directly over the Rockies.
