If you’re looking for the next golf superstar, look no further than the 22-year-old PGA Tour rookie Jon Rahm. After a stunning performance at the Masters, where he tied for 4th, Rahm is in the running to become the next big thing in golf. But that wasn’t always the case. In 2010, he had a disaster at Augusta, where he was in a playoff with Hunter Mahan for the lead. After a triple bogey on the 18th, Rahm resigned himself to the fact that he had lost the tournament.

In the final round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Jon Rahm was just a few shots behind the leader, Hunter Mahan and a shot behind the runner-up, Kevin Tway, when he double-bogeys to fall back to a tie for second. At that point he was in the same position he was in when he shot a final round 78 on the PGA Tour in Phoenix in 2012 that cost him the chance to win the event.

In the midst of the Phoenix Open, where Jon Rahm had just won for the first time on the PGA tour, the young prodigy was in the throes of a two-shot lead in the final round when he simply ran out of gas. The 23 year-old steed had been a late start to the season, and that morning he had only played nine holes. In his short life, Rahm had already won 3 tournaments and the US Open.

A year ago at the Memorial Tournament, John Rahm shot a final round 75 to beat Ryan Palmer by three strokes. That was not the case this weekend, when he left the same PGA Tour stop with a lead of six strokes and just 18 holes to play – the most unfortunate development for the leader since Hunter Mahan in 2013.

Hunter Mahan left the RBC Canadian Open with alead after 36 holes.

Unlike Ram’s departure, Mahan’s departure was not entirely unexpected. At the RBC Canadian Open, Mahan posted a 67-64-131, two strokes ahead of John Merrick in the middle of one of the oldest tournaments on the PGA Tour. The tournament, which began 109 years ago, was held for the 26th time in 2013. This year’s event will be held at Glen Abbey Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus. Greg Norman, Lee Trevino and Tiger Woods have all won here before, and Mahan was on his way to joining them and recording his sixth PGA Tour victory. But Mahan arrived in Oakville, Ontario with more than just golf on his mind. Mahan married Kandi Harris, a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and Dallas Mavericks dancer, in 2011. She was pregnant with her daughter Zoe and about to give birth when Mahan finished ninth at the British Open and went straight to the RBC Canadian Open. Mahan was planning to leave the tournament immediately when he received a call that his wife was in labor. That’s exactly what happened early Saturday. Due to rain, the start of the third lap was postponed, but Mahan packed up and left the field before he could get a foot on it. According to ESPN, Merrick was the default leader, but Brandt Snedeker shot a 63 on Saturday before winning the title with a 70 in the final round. Mahan won again in 2014, but hasn’t won since and has since dropped down the rankings. He hasn’t finished in the top 15 of tournaments since November 2018.

Ram’s situation was unprecedented

Minutes later, PGA Tour officials informed Ram that he had tested positive for COVID-19. Rahm, ranked third in the world, underwent daily tests after learning Monday during tournament week that he was in close contact with a man who had tested positive. It remained negative all week until Saturday. The series began Friday when Ram took his daily test after the second round. This time the lab reported a positive result, with Rahm still competing on Saturday. A confirmation test of the first sample came back positive as Rahm was wrapping up his day, reports Yahoo! Sports. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, players have put the events of the past 14 months behind them. But never before has a pandemic eliminated the leader in the third round of a tournament. I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament, Ram wrote on Twitter. It’s one of those things that happens in life, one of those times when the way we respond to failure defines us as people. I am very grateful that my family and I are doing well. I will take every precaution to stay safe and healthy, and I look forward to being back on the golf course as soon as possible.

Aries could be OK at the US Open

. Rahm has never won one of golf’s four majors, but he did pick up his first PGA Tour victory in 2017 at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Coincidentally, it’s the site of the 2021 U.S. Open golf championships. It remains to be seen if Ram will be able to play by then. He was isolated Saturday and will remain there until the 15th. June should remain, according to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The U.S. Open starts in two days. It remains to be seen if Ram will have enough time to recover from this inconvenience and prepare properly. Like Sportscasting on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter @sportscasting19 . Most of the greats never really fall. They show up, play their best, make a few mistakes and get out of trouble. Others, though, look awful. They hit the ball badly, make mistakes that cost them the tournament, and they feel embarrassed for the entire week that their name is associated with those poor results..
