The Miami Heat took on the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Semifinals, giving the Pacers the best of seven series, and the last chance to tie the series if they won. In Game 6, the Heat had a lead of 15 points in the 2nd quarter after LeBron James and Chris Bosh connected on a three-point shot, but the Pacers took the lead back and outscored the Heat by seven in the 2nd half, on their way to a 101-96 victory.

As the Pittsburgh Penguins stormed back for a Game 6 victory against the Washington Capitals on Sunday night, Evgeni Malkin showed us what true grit and determination looks like. Despite being down 3-1 early in the game, the Pens put together a magnificent comeback that ended with a goal scored by Malkin with a few seconds left on the clock. With the win, the Pens become the first team in NHL history to win a series after being down 3-1 with four games left.

In July of 2013, the Boston Red Sox were in first place in the AL East. The team was on top of the world. However, with a 2014 payroll of $163 million, the Red Sox weren’t exactly cheap. Despite that, Boston was able to lure a superstar by giving him a seven year, $217 million contract. That left Boston with a payroll of $225 million in 2014, meaning the team had to be creative in finding ways to make up for that difference.

Whether you’ve seen him on TNT or recall his playing days, almost every basketball fan knows that Charles Barkley never takes anything lightly. Chuck isn’t one to pass up an opportunity, whether it’s the chance to place a wager or call out a current player. That zeal seems to have been instilled in him from infancy.

Charles Barkley’s mother revealed her recollections of Charles’ most humiliating childhood experience during an old NBA on TNT broadcast. As a kid, the future NBA great wrapped a towel around his neck, climbed to the top of his building, and leapt off, believing he was Superman.

Charles Barkley isn’t afraid to make unconventional choices.

Barkley made a name for himself in the NBA as a skilled player with remarkable agility for his size. But, for better or worse, those abilities aren’t his whole legacy.

Sir Charles had no qualms about going his own way. While some scenarios seem like they came straight out of a comedy — Barkley tried to gain weight before the 1984 NBA draft so he wouldn’t have to join the Philadelphia 76ers — others were a little less amusing. The forward was involved in a number of battles both on and off the court, and spat on a little girl in the audience on one occasion.

Chuck also said that it was not his responsibility to provide a good example for the nation’s young. That became a famous Nike commercial, in which Barkley said, “I am not a role model.” Imagine any other athlete, much alone a household figure, taking such a risk.

As a young Superman, attempting to fly

Charles Barkley puts his heart and soul into whatever he does. While that attitude may be commendable, it nearly led him into severe problems when he was a kid.

A bulleted list of Chuck’s most memorable moments can be found in an old ESPN Classic biography of the forward. “At seven, Barkley had a minor concussion when, confident in his ability to fly, he climbed 20 feet to his rooftop and leapt off,” the first one begins.

That nugget is interesting on its own, though a little short in information. Thankfully, the remainder of the tale was finally shown to television audiences. Barkley’s mother filled in the gaps during a TNT program that was archived on Youtube.

Charcey Glenn said, “The most humiliating thing I definitely remember was when he decided he wanted to play Superman.” “We were living in the projects, and he fashioned himself a cape out of one of our bathroom towels and took control of the situation. I’m not sure how he made it to the top, but he attempted to fly like Superman.”

Charles, of course, was unable to fly. Instead of flying into the skies, he ended himself at the doctor’s office.

Glenn said, “He was fortunate and lucky.” “We bring him to the doctor, and he’s got a concussion from attempting to fly like Superman,” says the narrator.

But, in the end, it all worked out for Charles Barkley.

Without knowing the actual height of the structure in issue, it’s fair to presume Chuck survived a terrifying fall. While concussions may be a severe issue, the wannabe Superman’s situation seems to have worked out.

Barkley, of course, began strutting his stuff in high school before heading to Auburn to further his career. He quickly established himself as a fan favorite and a dynamic athlete, capable of grabbing a rebound, sprinting the floor, and completing the fast break with a dunk. Sir Charles was selected fifth overall in the 1984 NBA draft, and he was assigned to the City of Brotherly Love.

Despite several significant mistakes in his career — and the fact that he never won a championship ring on a sports level — Barkley earned a spot in the NBA Hall of Fame. Over the course of 16 seasons, he averaged 22.1 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, winning the NBA MVP award in 1993 and ultimately being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Chuck has found a comfortable home in the media in retirement, with an estimated net worth of $50 million.

Even if he isn’t Superman, it is still a fairly good existence. provided the statistics.
