Gary Payton, a former NBA player who won the Defensive Player of the Year Award six times and is often considered one of the greatest point guards in basketball history, has offered some surprising takes on two legendary players. Payton says that he believes Michael Jordan was never THE best player of all time because he relies too much on his ability to score and not enough on defense. In contrast, Magic Johnson is more polished with just what’s needed for an elite guard as opposed to Jordan’s overwhelming strengths.
The “6’5 nba players” is a list of the tallest NBA players. The list includes some surprising names, such as Gary Payton.
Gary Payton, a Hall of Famer, was selected one of the NBA’s best 75 players of all time. He was one of the greatest and most assured point guards in NBA history. He also believes he isn’t the greatest point guard in the game.
The nine-time All-Star says that although he is one of the finest basketball players in the league, he isn’t among the best point guards. According to Payton, neither Michael Jordan nor LeBron James are the NBA’s greatest player.
Gary Payton backed up everything he said.
On May 27, 2006, at American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, Gary Payton of the Miami Heat defends Chauncey Billups of the Detroit Pistons in game three of the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2006 NBA Playoffs.
On the court, Payton was renowned for his ferocity. Payton, one of the finest defensive guards in NBA history, utilized his abilities and his words to shame his opponent.
Payton, the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1995-96, made a livelihood chasing down opponents. He was chosen to the NBA All-Defensive Team nine times. With his agility and trademark trash language, he irritated opponents.
Many people were irritated with the conversation, but it was Payton’s game.
According to The Athletic, “it made you want to go back at him even more,” Hall of Fame forward Chris Mullin reportedly remarked of Payton, “but ultimately, the true aggravation stemmed from how brilliant a player he was.” Backing it up, this is when trash-talking reaches new heights. You’re simply a clown if you trash talk and can’t back it up.”
Jalen Rose once observed about Payton, “The strength of his game is defense and tenacity.” “He’s a jerk who says a lot of nonsense. And he’s prepared to go to war with you. Right? “How are you going to use that?”
Payton had a decent offensive game as well. He averaged more over 20 points in eight of his 17 NBA seasons. In seven seasons, he averaged more than eight assists per game.
Gary Payton has said that he is not the finest point guard in NBA history.

Payton recently said that, as confident as he is in himself, he isn’t the finest point guard in NBA history. He didn’t mince words when he said he considered himself one of the finest basketball players in NBA history.
Payton was asked whether he regarded himself the greatest point guard in the NBA in a recent interview with DJ Vlad, and he responded quickly.
“No,” he said emphatically. “I basically think of myself as one of the best basketball players of all time.” I don’t care who was the best or anything like that.
“John Stockton, in my view, was the best point guard in history. That is my viewpoint. Then it’s Magic for everyone.”
Stockton, according to Payton, was even more difficult to defend than Michael Jordan. Part of it, he said to VladTV, was because he never replied to Payton’s trash talk.
He described himself as “stonefaced.” “However, I have to keep an eye on him from a distance of 94 feet.” I have to consider coming off picks, him delivering passes, and him returning to attempt to grab basketballs. He’s constantly on the go, and he’s always putting pressure on me. I have to keep my attention on him at all times.
“He was only on the field for 34 minutes.” Jerry Sloan only portrayed him in that role. When you glance up, you’ll see that he’s shot the ball ten times. He came up with eight ideas. He attempted seven free throws, all of which he made. The next thing you know, you’re looking up to see that he has 16 assists. Then you think to yourself, “Wow, he got five, six rebounds and five steals.” I look up there and think to myself, “Man, he got 27, 16, 5, 5, 5.” That’s something I can’t handle.”
Neither Michael Jordan nor LeBron James, according to Payton, are the GOAT.
*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden} html,bodyheight:100% img,spanposition:absolute;width:100% ;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto;bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyheight:100% html,bodyhe spanheight:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black;text-shadow
After claiming that Stockton was the finest point guard in NBA history, Payton went on to describe who he thought was the best player of all time.
He’s certainly in the minority since he didn’t choose Jordan or LeBron as the top players in the game.
“People often ask me who the best basketball player in history is,” he stated. “Wilt Chamberlain, I believe.” Everything he did, as well as all of his records. We’re all on the lookout for his albums. Whose records are they breaking when you see (James) Harden and his teammates shattering them? Wilt Chamberlain’s records are being broken by all of them.”
Chamberlain was a statistician’s dream. Payton is totally accurate if the GOAT is only based on metrics. In one season, the former Lakers center averaged 50.4 points and 25.7 rebounds. He averaged 30.1 points and 22.9 rebounds throughout the course of his career. He was a seven-time scoring champion and a four-time MVP. Payton has a valid argument.
Payton said, “I don’t compare individuals.” “We were all fantastic. “We’re all in the same boat – we’re all in the Hall of Fame.”
Gary Payton claims that LeBron James is “by far” a better all-around basketball player than Michael Jordan.
