The melee weapons in Days Gone are legit, and I’ve found myself using them more often than I thought I would. There are 12 of them in total, all of which are unique and offer their own set of downsides and strengths. The tier list is based on the weapons’ effectiveness in the game, the players’ personal preference, and the player’s overall melee weapon proficiency.

People couldn’t wait for Days Gone, which was previously exclusive to the PS4, to come to PC, and now it’s finally here in all its glory. As before, the main weapon in Days Gone is a melee weapon that lets you take out monsters like the boss. This guide presents only the best melee weapons in the game Days Gone, including possible locations and recipes to make them. If you’re not sure which weapon to choose, get the highest level weapon as soon as you can get it.
Days Gone S-Tier Close Combat Weapons
Protruding metal axe
This metal axe may not look special, but it is by far the best battle axe weapon in Days Gone. It hits hard and can be quite durable if properly maintained. It cannot be created, so don’t waste time looking for it, but you can find it on the ground at various points in the game. If you have a repair skill, you can easily keep it solid so it doesn’t break. If it breaks, you can always find another one at the following locations:
- After the scene with Kuri and Dick, by the blue SUV.
- During task , collect the yeast , near the machine in the yeast storage area.
- During the quest, I don’t want to hang out at , in the back of Taylor’s location.
- During the search A Bunch of Cavemen , by a wood pile.
Upper mass
Like the superior metal axe, this weapon cannot be made. It doesn’t do as much damage as an axe, but the durability is much better. The top mass is also rarer than the axe, making it a harder candy to get. Yet he can still spawn in both places:
- At Diamond Lake Camp, on the steps of one of the cabins.
- At the Crater Lake Visitor Center, behind the abandoned car next to the Visitor Center sign.
Days Gone A-Tier weapons for hand-to-hand combat
Machete
Many Days Gone players are familiar with this popular melee weapon, a true example of the survival genre. It has high damage, but low durability, so you’ll have to repair it fairly often. You can make a machete out of a lawnmower blade, but it’s much easier to find one on the ground in one of the following places:
- In the Cascadezone, south of the cemetery.
- In the search in pursuit of Leon in the ambush camp.
- From one of the roadblocks
Baseball bat axe
This weapon is a baseball bat with a blade attached for great power. Unlike a machete, finding a baseball bat on the ground is a big deal. The best option would be to make one. First you must obtain the axe blueprint by eliminating the Black Crater ambush camp. You’ll find the plan in the bunker under the warehouse. You can then build it in the Survival menu with the following materials:
- 1x wooden baseball bat
- 1x saw

Days Gone B-Tier weapons
Superior Club
Although this melee weapon has a very hefty price tag, it cannot be compared to other weapons in the same category. Superior Club is just too slow, but he hits hard, so he could be a good choice to keep out free kicks. These weapons are also much easier to manufacture than find in the field.
