The Dallas Cowboys were led to a dramatic Sunday Night Football win against the Minnesota Vikings by backup quarterback Cooper Rush. Dak Prescott missed the game due to a calf issue and fought hard to return for the game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Prescott said he could have played against the Vikings but was pulled out for safety reasons. With the Broncos’ game only days away, Jerry Jones and America’s Team are focused on Prescott’s availability — or lack thereof.
The Cowboys’ fortunes were not ruined by Dak Prescott’s injury.
There has been no change in the Dak Prescott issue many hours before kickoff. Cooper Rush is expected to make his NFL debut tonight against the Vikings, according to popular opinion. Cowboys decision-makers would be taking a huge risk otherwise, according to sources, for a variety of reasons.

Prescott was designated as a genuine game-time decision heading into the Vikings game. Prescott tried it out before the game, but the team chose to keep him out.
It didn’t make a difference. Cooper Rush came in and stunned the world with a brilliant performance. He completed 24-of-40 passes for 325 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the game.
Rush seemed to be at ease on the huge stage and in primetime. With with three minutes remaining and the Cowboys behind by a field goal, Rush and the Cowboys’ offense pulled together a magnificent drive. The game was capped off with a stunning touchdown throw to Amari Cooper in the end zone.
Rush stepped in and guided the Cowboys to win despite Prescott’s absence.

As the weekend approaches, Prescott’s availability has become a hot topic in Dallas. Prescott himself said a few words on Thursday that sent Dallas supporters into a frenzy (h/t Jon Machota of The Athletic).
“Sunday is something I’m looking forward to.”
On Dak Prescott’s impending comeback
That is, without a doubt, a positive indicator. However, it isn’t obvious if he is ready to play, despite all indications to the contrary.
Nobody wanted to be on the field this past Sunday more than Prescott. When asked what he learned by watching the game from the sidelines, the Cowboys’ star quarterback delivered a great response (h/t Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram).
“That I don’t really like seeing.” That I like playing.”
On seeing the Vikings game, Dak Prescott said
That won’t be necessary against the Broncos, which is great news for the Cowboys.
Right now, Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones are having the time of their lives.
The Cowboys are 6-1 and have a comfortable lead over the rest of the NFC East. Things are looking brighter now that Prescott has returned.
CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper are having success, while Ezekiel Elliott is back to his Pro Bowl form. Micah Parsons, the rookie superstar, is off to a great start in his career, and things are looking up for Dallas.
The NFC, on the other hand, is stacked, but head coach Mike McCarthy and owner Jerry Jones have to be optimistic about their prospects in the first half of the season.
If Prescott can return to his previous form and perform at a high level, the Cowboys might be in line for a bye in the playoffs.
