Collin Morikawa is the most unlikely winner on the PGA Tour this year. He only earned $11,000 in the first two months of the year, and that was after he failed to qualify for the Tour Finals. He hasn’t proven himself on tour since 2010, only managing a handful of T-3’s. He was out of money and out of options for the next year, but then he got $2 million from a PR person named Michael J. Fox. If you know anything about football, you know that there are only a handful of people who have ever had their names on the field at the Super Bowl. I’m not sure what the odds were on him making the field, but I’ll bet he

A professional golfer is often viewed as a rich man’s game. In fact, despite making a ton of money, many professional golfers struggle to pay down their debt. That’s what happened to Collin Morikawa last weekend, who received a $2-million windfall from his winnings on the PGA Tour despite having not played a single shot on that tour.

Collin Morikawa, the 22-year-old golfer who was the first Japanese-American to play on the PGA Tour, has been on an incredible journey since his debut on the PGA Tour in September of 2017. His rise was sudden and shocking, with the kid from Hawaii (and Hawaii State) making the cut in his first four PGA Tour events, a feat that had never been done by a Japanese-American golfer in the modern era of golf.. We didn’t think Morikawa would be able to repeat his outstanding 2020 season, in which he won two events, earned his first major championship trophy, and ended sixth in the FedEx Cup standings.

Well, we were dead wrong on that one.

To follow up that success in 2021, Morikawa won two additional events, was named Champion Golfer of the Year, qualified for his first Ryder Cup, had a career-high eight top-10s, and won $7 million. He also starts the FedEx Cup Playoffs in first place in the rankings.

For the young superstar, this is only the beginning.

Without ever picking up a club, Morikawa gained $2 million to his bank account.

Every week, PGA Tour professionals compete for millions of dollars in prize money. But, in the larger picture, they’re aiming for the $15 million FedEx Cup grand prize from the first to the final event of the year.

In that regard, Morikawa enters the playoffs as the man to beat, having finished first in the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 during the regular season. For their consistent performance during the regular season, the top ten players on that ranking will share a $10 million prize.

What is the winner’s share? Oh, it’s just $2 million.

Morikawa didn’t even have to play in the Wyndham Championship last weekend to earn the top position on the list, and his bank account grew by $2 million as a result.

That’s what I call a productive weekend.

In the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the world No. 3 hopes to earn an additional The sum total is $15 million.

In only three years on the PGA Tour, Morikawa has won just over $14 million in on-course wins, but he has a chance to quadruple that in one day. $15 million.

“I believe so,” Morikawa stated this week on CNBC’s Halftime Report. “It’s something I’ve shown throughout the regular season. Finishing first in this Comcast Business Tour Top 10 demonstrates a high level of consistency, but this is a three-week span of golf. I’m considering the playoffs as a whole, rather than three distinct events. But in this last tournament, I want to perform at my best.”

I’m sure you do, Collin, with $15 million on the line. I’m sure you do.
