Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots was riddled with controversy. First, Steelers defensive back Artie Burns hit Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola in the head, resulting in a flag. The flag was later overturned, but New England had a chance to take advantage. During the play, Tom Brady threw a pass to Amendola that was intercepted by Robert Golden.

It’s a textbook case of a quarterback coach getting his quarterback all wrong. On Monday, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said that Antonio Brown is “the best player in the NFL” and that “he can’t be stopped.” Brown, who has career-highs in catches and receiving yards this year, has only been held under 40 receiving yards once (Week 15, 2014) and hasn’t eclipsed the twenty-yard mark in any game since Week 7.

For the past two seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been the model franchise in the NFL. In 2017, they won the Super Bowl, but even more impressive, they did so without the services of arguably the league’s best player: Antonio Brown.

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers already had a strong receiving corps heading into the 2020 season, Antonio Brown’s arrival in the second part of the year gave the squad a new dimension. He wasn’t the same athlete that was named to four consecutive first-team All-Pro teams and led the NFL in receiving yards two times while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He did, however, demonstrate that he was still a top athlete.

What does it imply, though, if Brown can return to his previous level of play with the Pittsburgh Steelers? The rest of the league should be afraid of this.

Is that even possible? Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians may have hinted that this is the case recently.

Prior to Antonio Brown joining the Buccaneers in the second half of the season, the Buccaneers already had a strong receiving corps. In eight games, he caught 45 receptions for 483 yards and four scores, giving them yet another weapon.

However, during the divisional round, the great wide receiver suffered an injury that forced him to miss the NFC Championship Game. Brown, on the other hand, returned for the Super Bowl, catching five passes for 22 yards and a touchdown. He helped the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl by assisting them in a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

In May, the seven-time Pro Bowler underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after suffering an injury in the divisional round. The operation seemed to have returned him to an uncontrollable state.

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians made an incredible statement regarding AB.

As Brown and the Buccaneers’ two star receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, prepare for the 2021 season, head coach Bruce Arians made an unexpected allegation regarding AB.

According to ESPN, Arians remarked of Brown’s injury, “This is the healthiest he’s been in a few years.” “For a number of years, it’s been bugging him. It’s fantastic now that it’s all clean.”

“He probably needed the treatment, but he wouldn’t do it,” he continued. It’s incredible; I was speaking with Emmanuel Sanders last night, and he said that was his first surgery ever. It’s incredible, especially at his age [33]. It’s amazing how well he looks after himself. He’s playing at a faster pace than we’ve seen in the last four or five years.”

What’s going on here?

So, according to Arians, Brown is still playing at the same pace he was four or five years ago? That’s terrifying if it’s true.

Tom Brady threw for the most yards in a season (4,633) and the second-most touchdowns (40) of his career in 2020. For the most part, he had Evans, Godwin, Scotty Miller, and Rob Gronkowski to throw to (all but Godwin played in 16 games), and for half of the season, he had Brown, who had only played in one game since the 2018 season.

Brady, on the other hand, has a chance to have a career year if AB returns to where he was four or five years ago.

Brown was a first-team All-Pro in 2017 and had 1,533 receiving yards to lead the NFL. He also had 101 receptions for 101 yards and nine touchdowns. It was his fifth consecutive year with at least 100 receptions, and his fourth in five seasons with at least 1,499 receiving yards. At the time, the Central Michigan product was clearly the best receiver in the NFL.

Brown, as previously stated, did not play in the NFC Championship Game last season and had only 22 yards in the Super Bowl. As a result, the Buccaneers didn’t really need him to win the Super Bowl. But if he’s back to where he was in 2017, the Super Bowl champions will have added perhaps the best receiver in the league. He has the ability to elevate an already dynamic attack (30.8 points per game in 2020) to new heights.

Simply put, the rest of the NFL should be frightened of him.

Brown and the Buccaneers have already proven to be a formidable force, but a fully healthy AB might become the league’s worst nightmare.
