The NBA season is coming to a close and the Golden State Warriors are sitting pretty atop the Western Conference with an impressive 67-15 record. They’ve already clinched home court in their first round matchup against Utah, but there’s still plenty of work they can do over this offseason if they want to improve their title chances next year.

The “potential cavs trades” are 4 bold offseason moves that could help the team strengthen their title chances for 2022-23.

Before the All-Star break, the Cleveland Cavaliers were in a tight race for first place in the Eastern Conference. Injury, however, caused them to drop in the rankings and lose in the NBA Play-In Tournament.

The Cavs finished 44-38 this season, demonstrating their tremendous potential with to the brilliance of budding studs Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley. So, what adjustments can they make to increase their chances of winning the championship in 2022-23?

We looked at several potential deals for the Cavaliers. It’s worth noting that we’re not salary cap experts, so the numbers may not add up perfectly with each of these transactions, but we attempted to be as realistic as possible. These are also one-off transactions. They wouldn’t all happen at the same time over the offseason.

The Cavaliers should contemplate four daring moves.

Dejounte Murray is acquired from the San Antonio Spurs.

This is one of the more bizarre suggestions, but we felt we’d get the two most unlikely to happen out of the way first.

San Antonio Spurs finished 34-48, their third consecutive losing season. With Gregg Popovich’s future uncertain, San Antonio may decide to deconstruct and rebuild for the future.

If the Cavs go down that road, they should inquire about Dejounte Murray. Cleveland would almost certainly have to trade with some young players like Collin Sexton and Isaac Okoro, as well as draft selections. However, the shift would be worthwhile.

Murray recorded a career-high 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game in 2021-22, earning him his first All-Star selection. A backcourt of him, Darius Garland, and Caris LeVert would be one of the most frightening in the league, immediately elevating the Cavs to a top-five club in the Eastern Conference.

Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz has been traded.

This is, without a doubt, the most absurd of the four. To get Donovan Mitchell, the Cavaliers would almost certainly have to give up a slew of draft selections and young assets.

However, after yet another early playoff loss with the Utah Jazz, he may want to transfer someplace where he can truly win. Mitchell, a three-time All-Star who has averaged at least 23.8 points in each of the previous four seasons, would have a great opportunity to do so on a team featuring Garland, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley (three Cavs players who are presumably untouchable).

For years to come, the Cavs would be in a position to win.

Make a trade for Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons.

*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden} html,bodyheight:100% img,spanposition:absolute;width:100% ;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto;bodyheight:100% spanheight:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black spanheight:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans><span>▶</span>

Cavs reporter Evan Dammarrell recently reported that Jerami Grant could be a realistic option for Cleveland this offseason. Perhaps Lauri Markkanen and a package of picks would be enough to pull it off, especially since the team has a lottery pick and two second-rounders this year.

Grant averaged 20.9 points per game for the Detroit Pistons the last two seasons and has developed into a capable three-point shooter, connecting on over 35.0 percent of his tries. He might provide the athletic scoring threat that the Cavaliers lacked at times this season.

Trade up in the NBA Draft in 2022

*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden} html,bodyheight:100% img,spanposition:absolute;width:100% ;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto;bodyheight:100% spanheight:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black spanheight:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans><span>▶</span>

Because of their defeat in the NBA Play-In Tournament, the Cavaliers hold a lottery choice in the 2022 NBA Draft. There’s a possibility they’ll earn a first-round pick, but the chances are slim. As a result, a trade up in the draft may be a wise decision.

Cleveland’s offense would be elevated by adding a young perimeter/wing player like Paolo Banchero, Jabari Smith, Shaedon Sharpe, or Jaden Ivey. Teams would have to pay attention to several threats in addition to defending Darius Garland from beyond the arc.

The Cavaliers have a number of options for securing their championship prospects in 2022-23. In this year’s draft, trading up could be their best option.

Basketball Reference provided the statistics.

Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers uses a passionate Instagram post to sternly slam his critics.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been struggling in recent years. In an effort to turn their fortunes around, they are reportedly looking to make some bold offseason moves. The Cavaliers are expected to buyout the remainder of Jordan Clarkson’s contract and sign Jabari Parker and Rodney Hood on free-agent deals. Reference: cleveland cavaliers buyout rumors.
